Editor’s Note

Posted by Anna Closas on 2026-01-05

Free & Equal is proud to report on our record of acceptances and turnaround time for our first year of operation. The data below refers to submissions received during the twelve-month period from September 13, 2024 (the date our journal opened) to September 13, 2025.

Article submissions: 388

Total accepted: 18 (4.6%)

Average time to first decision: 38 days

Average time from submission to acceptance: 161 days

Our first year of operation also saw some changes to the F&E masthead. Sophia Moreau (NYU), who served as an Associate Editor since 2016 (at F&E and also at our predecessor journal Philosophy and Public Affairs), decided to step down after nine years of service. Johann Frick, who joined our editorial team in 2020, also stepped down from the AE role this year after five years with our group. We thank them both for their dedicated service to the journal, and we are grateful that both have agreed to join F&E’s Editorial Board, where we continue to enjoy the benefit of their good counsel.

We are also pleased to welcome Johanna Thoma (Bayreuth), who has recently joined as a new Associate Editor, and Kasper Lippert-Rasmussen (Aarhus), who will begin reading submissions in 2026. We’re grateful to these two distinguished scholars for their willingness to take on this role, and we look forward to working with them.
